Teaching / Workshops

Lucy has extensive experience teaching, mentoring and leading workshops related to her practice as a theatre designer. Her experience ranges from primary school to degree level education.   She has worked with a diverse range of groups including young refugees, young carers, disabled, homeless and those with special needs.  Lucy is passionate about inclusion and has devoted large parts of her design career to designing for inclusive youth theatres such as The Lyric Hammersmith, The Royal & Derngate, Oval House and Haringey Shed. She has extensive experience mentoring and teaching theatre design and is qualified to teach Art & Design in secondary school.

Led an introduction to costume design for young people interested in a future career in theatre design.

  • Lead Artist, The Barbican Theatre Guildhall Creative Learning Project

     Led an all day outside mask making workshop for Priory Court Picnic Event.

  • Visiting Tutor, The Lyric Theatre, London.

Led a set design and construction workshop for seven BTEC students from Fulham Enterprise School, including theory and practical skills, culminating in scale model making.

Widening Participation Tutor, University of the Arts, Central St Martins

  • As part of the university’s widening participation programme, taught a team of 14-19 year old students to design and create set and costume for a production of Orpheus & Eurdice.  The participants attended a three week course culminating in an expansive site specific production across the Granary Building.

July 2007- Ongoing

Designer, workshop leader & design mentor, Oval House Theatre

  • Mentored several groups of inner city teenagers working towards their Arts Awards. Designed numerous shows for the theatre’s various youth and community drama groups, including the ‘New London’ group catering mainly for young refugees.

Designer Haringey Shed Inclusive Youth Theatre

  • Designed numerous productions for Haringey Shed and attended training in inclusive practice.

 2013-ongoing: Workshop Leader for the Charity Create:

Through Create have worked with young people in a variety of settings including: young carers, young people in hospices, hospitals and respite centers and children in care.

2017: Inspired Arts Newham

  • Costume design and creating with Newham young careers.
